About The Event

A strong and reliable US accent is essential for any professional actor wanting to open up their casting opportunities. Working through warm-ups, specific sounds, rhythm and melody, we will also spend time reading through US pilot scripts.

Students will be required to bring a monologue of no more than 45 seconds (ideally written for an American character by an American writer) to the class to work with which will be recorded on the first day and the last day to monitor improvement. Please bring yourself, the monologue and a smart phone/tablet/laptop to the sessions.

For actors (advanced and beginners), speakers, presenters, performers and anyone wanting to learn the standard American accent.

Upon finishing the course you will leave with:

 • a pragmatic & useful daily workout

Ty Glaser is an actor, director, acting and accent coach. She originally trained in professional dance at The Northern Ballet School, Manchester, going on to train extensively in acting at The Actor’s Temple, London, under the guidance of Master Teacher, Simon Furness. Ty has also completed courses at: - Lesly Kahn & Co, Los Angeles, - Anthony Meindel, Los Angeles, - Improv Olympic, Los Angeles, - Upright Citizens Brigade, Los Angeles, and - The Free Association, London. She has appeared in numerous television shows, films and theatre productions including: Secret Diary of a Call Girl (ITV), Holby City (BBC), The IT Crowd (Channel 4), Father Brown (BBC), Eliminators (WWE Studios), Hard Boiled Sweets (Universal), Bones (Fox, USA), The Blue Room by David Hare (The Garrick Theatre, Litchfield), ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore (West Yorkshire Playhouse), Yerma (Hull Truck Theatre & Notting Hill Gate Theatre). Ty wrote and directed short film Spark in 2016.

Ty has been teaching screen acting at The Playing Space in London, and Meisner, Casting Workshops, American Accent and General British Accent at The Actor’s Temple, London. She has also taught at The London Met Film School and The Young Actors’ Studio.
Throughout Ty’s career as an actress and voice over artist she has often been asked to change her accent to play different roles - a skill that came fairly naturally to her but one she also found very interesting. After living in LA for a number of months in 2014 and 2015 Ty was asked to help a group of actor friends with their Standard American Accents - great feedback followed and so began Ty’s journey into dialect coaching. Using all the knowledge she had gained studying with renowned voice coaches Julia Wilson Dickson, Gaby Santinelli, Denise Woods and Jessica Drake, Ty has created her own way of teaching and perfecting a Standard US Accent, a Received Pronunciation Accent, and General British Accent based on what she found most useful and effective as an actress herself. Her specialities include creating a fun, friendly and encouraging environment to learn in; specific, personalised tools to help the student in question hit the sounds they’re aiming for as quickly as possible; and constructing easy-to-use, practical worksheets that can be utililsed again and again to keep confidence and practice at the highest level possible.

‘I’ve taken a number of US accent courses in the past and haven’t been impressed with any of them until I met Ty. Her knowledge is amazing. I understood nuances I’d never considered before which have given me the confidence I’ve been seeking all along.’

- Christopher Hardcastle

‘Super helpful, super knowledgeable and super lovely! The perfect environment to make mistakes, knowing that you will get pulled up in them but ultimately for your own benefit and without embarrassment! Well, minimal embarrassment.’ - Oliver Hewett

‘My recent three day intensive course with Ty gave me an excellent foothold in the American accent. It was exacting, supportive and honest, leaving me wanting to do much more training with her. Ty had many useful tips and exercises, which went beyond the classes, helping us to practice and develop independently.’ - Simon Balcon

"Ty's approach is relaxed and focused, she knows her stuff and takes time to give personal attention to each student. I have worked with a few accents coaches but I will alway return to her as my first choice." - Meneka Das Actor/Director

‘I have found Ty an amazing teacher in accent and voice work - not only being able to very carefully identify how I'm speaking and pronouncing words, but then giving very easy to follow tips and exercises that make a big difference!’ - Sanjay Sutar

‘I am an actress from Bulgaria. As you know, it is quite hard to get rid off your accent when you are especially from this part of Europe. I have been working with other accent reduction coaches, but I have never ever improved my general american accent more than after my intensive private sessions with Ty. She knows what she does. It doesn't matter where I am in.' - Anna

London or Sofia. When I speak in english now I make an impression of an American speaking person. I still do my facetime sessions with her and I hope she will never leave me without a coach!’ - Doroteya Toleva

‘I found the accent classes with Ty incredibly helpful. From the beginning she encouraged me to improvise which was hard but eventually gave me more confidence when doing the accent. The exercises and images to find placement helped me create a more accurate and sustainable sound. I especially liked that she didn't let me get away with getting it wrong, if it wasn't on point she would say something and that allowed me to learn and grow. I would definitely go back for a class in order to prepare for an audition or role.’ - Ana Torre
